Why the Cotswolds is the Perfect Place to Create Sustainable Knitwear

When you picture the Cotswolds, you probably think rolling green hills, honey-coloured stone cottages, and sheep. Lots of sheep. (We think of them too, but mostly their wool.)
It turns out this little pocket of countryside isn’t just nice for Sunday walks. It’s also the perfect place to dream up, design, and make sustainable knitwear.

Here’s why we call it home.

1. Nature’s Own Colour Palette

Forget trend forecasts, here, our inspiration comes from frosty meadow mornings, wildflower fields, and that particular shade of grey you only get from low clouds over the hills (ie. the cloud stitch jumper).
Designing in the Cotswolds means working in sync with nature, not against it. That’s kind of the point of sustainable knitwear: letting the environment set the tone (literally) and avoiding anything that’ll date faster than you can say “last season.”

2. Wool Has a Passport Stamp Here

The Cotswolds has a long history in the wool trade, it’s basically the original “wool capital” of England. This heritage is baked into the villages, the markets, and the landscape.
We’re not here to re-enact the past, but we are here to learn from it: using natural fibres that have stood the test of time, choosing ethical production methods, and keeping our supply chain as local as possible.

3. Slow Fashion Feels Natural Here

You can’t rush a Cotswolds afternoon. The pace of life here is the opposite of fast fashion, and that matters. Afternoon’s knitwear is designed to last for years, not weeks. Each piece is made thoughtfully, with minimal waste and maximum wearability. That’s the slow fashion promise, and it feels right at home here.

4. Supporting Local, Always

From the photographers who shoot our lookbooks, to the local boutiques who we hope will stock out beautiful knits in seasons to come, working here means working with people who care about the craft.
By keeping our business in the Cotswolds, we support our community, and reduce the environmental footprint of shipping materials across the world.

5. It’s Just… Inspiring

Yes, we’re biased. But there’s something about this mix of history, craftsmanship, and natural beauty that makes you want to create pieces worthy of the setting.
When we say “sustainable knitwear made in the Cotswolds”, we mean more than a location tag. We mean knitwear that feels like it belongs here, timeless, practical, and beautiful.
