Caring for Your Knitwear
Every Afternoon piece is made from beautiful, natural fibres, chosen for their softness, quality, and longevity. With the right care, your knit will last for years (and look just as good as the day it arrived). Natural fibres like wool and alpaca are naturally antibacterial and odour-resistant. This means they actively repel odour-causing bacteria, staying fresh for longer between washes. Instead of trapping smells like synthetic fabrics, they allow moisture to evaporate and bacteria to break down naturally. Often, simply airing your knit flat is all it needs to feel refreshed, helping your garment last longer and reducing environmental impact.
Please read and follow these care instructions carefully. Incorrect washing or handling may cause damage that we can’t accept responsibility for.
How Often Should You Wash?
-
Often, simply airing your knit flat will freshen it up.
-
Spot clean small marks rather than washing the whole piece.
-
Frequent washing can cause unnecessary wear and shorten its life.
Hand Wash Only
-
Fill a clean basin or sink with cool/lukewarm water (never hot, heat can shrink and felt natural fibres).
-
Add a small amount of mild wool wash or baby shampoo.
-
Submerge your knit and gently swish, do not rub, wring, or twist.
-
Leave to soak for 10 minutes, then rinse in cool water until soap-free.
Drying Your Knit
-
Never tumble dry.
-
Gently press (don’t wring) out excess water, then roll your knit in a clean towel to absorb moisture.
-
Lay flat on another dry towel, reshaping it to its original measurements. Dry away from direct heat or sunlight.
Storing Your Knit
-
Fold and store flat, never hang, as this can distort the shape.
-
Keep in a cool, dry place. For longer storage, use a breathable cotton bag with a natural moth deterrent (like cedar).
By following these steps, you’ll help your Afternoon knitwear look and feel beautiful for years to come.
If you’re unsure about any part of the process, please contact us on hello@afternoonknitwear.com before washing, we’re always happy to advise.
